Thank you Rebecca for sharing your work, and a bit of your life with us.

Tell us about where you live, your likes, dislikes. Can you ever imagine living anywhere else and if so where?

I live in Fort White, which is a small town outside of Gainesville, Florida.
My likes are art, music, movies, books, cats, ipods, and people with open minds.
My dislikes are prejudiced people, religious nuts, and black licorice.
I can imagine living lots of places...maybe Florence, Italy or Australia, or Japan.

Where do you draw your inspiration from; how do you choose the subjects of your work?

I can get inspiration from any source, but usually music, movies, and books will make me want to create. I choose my subjects from looking at stock photos and/or from anything visual.

Do you have a favorite artist?

Nene Thomas. She's so good it makes me want to cry.

When did you first recognize your love of art?

Very young, I can remember playing with my mom's paint box at the age of 7. She painted and had a professional box with paints, charcoals, and pastels. I loved the colors of the pastels. I remember asking for paper so I could make pictures, too.

When you aren’t painting, what do you do for fun and relaxation; your hobbies?

Watch bad reality tv online, read.

Tell us a little about your family.

I live with my disabled sister and I am her caregiver. She's also my best friend. My parents live two houses down from me, so we spend a lot of time together.

Who has been your greatest support in pursuing your artistic career?

It would be a tie between my mom and my sister. I was always raised in a creative atmosphere. My mom painted, my sister drew cartoons, my other sister played the guitar and sang, and I started playing the guitar and singing at around age 11. They all support me in creating art, regardless of the type of art.

If you had not chosen art as a profession, what would you be doing instead?

I worked almost 13 years at a national bank and I was quite happy there, doing data entry and paperwork. I would have stayed forever but they moved me into customer service where I got screamed at on the phone all day, and I just couldn't deal with that.

Do you have a favorite medium when working?

Yes, digital. I adore drawing, but I need practice. I've tried watercolors and acrylics and I suck at those. I used to paint with oils and I was pretty good with that, but it takes money and a lot of room, and digital is just so much easier to get on with.

Of all of your artwork, do you have a personal favorite?

I'm proud of all my artwork because each one represents a step on my journey. I think most artists would say their most recent work is the favorite and I agree with that too.

How long does it normally take you to complete a piece from start to finish?

It depends on my motivation. Usually days if I'm really focused.

Share some of your favorite things: Music, Foods, Movies, Books?

I love music, but not a lot of rap or country, or jazz.
Favorite food is chinese food.
Favorite movies... I love scifi, space battles, future tech, that sort of thing.
Favorite books... anything post apocalyptic. I've probably read most of them out there. The Stand, Swan Song, anything that shows the struggle people go through during disasters. I also love futuristic dystopian books and scifi books.

Which artists, past or present, most inspire you, and why?

I admire the Pre-Raphaellite brotherhood because they were rebels, and their art is stunning.

Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet and talk with over dinner.

My grandmother. She died when I was 12. I'd love to get to know her as an adult.

Is there a particular charity or cause that you participate in or work with?

Yes, I work with raising Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness. I have Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, and I went through 4 surgeries including having all my lymph nodes out in my right arm (the cancer had spread there). I'm currently in remission, but I want to save other people from going through what I went through, so I try to educate on no sunbathing or tanning, and getting skin checks once a year.

Lastly, would you like to leave a personal note to your fans and/or aspiring artists?

Practice, practice, practice... never give up. If you can't live without creating art... don't.
To fans I would say...”Gee, thanks!”
